*Coronado Islands*
The islands proper have been on the slower side for yellowtail the last few days but it hasn’t been completely dead; there have been little pockets of both yellowtail and bonito around and some are willing to bite. There were some 6- to 12-pound bonito in the lee of North Island, plus a few 5- to 12 -pound yellowtail scattered throughout the Middle Grounds. Trolling Rapalas is a great way to locate both species; then when you get a bite, shut down and try to keep the school around with chum. Read more

Coastal property rentals on high demand. In a recent statement, Marco Antonio Preciado, head of Baja’s Real Estate Professionals Association (CEPIBC), said that the demand for rental properties in the so-called “Golden Zone” which includes Tijuana, Rosarito, and Ensenada; exceeds the offerings available. Although there are some yellows at the Islands, they are not biting very well. There is some sign of them along the weather side of North Island, the Middle Grounds, the Lighthouse and South Kelp. The water is still a bit off color at the spots below South Islands.
Slow trolling either sardine or mackerel are good choices for catching one. Read more

Teachers on strike. More than 2,000 state teachers have been on strike, intermittently demanding salary payments from the state government for temporary teachers and for the ones that have recently retired but have not received their pensions. Read more

Recently the water around the Islands has been trying to clean up a little bit, with North Island having some clean 62-degree water at times, but South Island generally remaining dirty and off color green. Even in the clean water, though, there hasn’t been much sign of yellowtail – only a few bonito. Read more

Tourist snaggers regulated. We can’t say we haven’t heard that before, this time Ensenada is the one that is trying to eradicate the annoying practice on the tourist streets of the city.

Although boat traffic has been light because of inconsistent weather conditions, those who are having a look have been rewarded with some nice 12- to 20-pound yellowtail with the weather side of North Island, the Middle Grounds and the South Kelp Reef (SKR) being the best bet. Even if the fish are not showing under birds, slow-trolling sardines and/or mackerel has been producing good results. Read more
