McCail Smith Jr is a retired U.S. Navy veteran who suffered PTSD as a result of injuries incurred during active duty in the Vietnam conflict. As a result of his injuries, the VA granted him partial disability benefits. Read more
Cargo Ship Containers Make Suitable Homes
Some Places Are Using Them to Ease the Homeless Problem
One of those places is Midway, California, where a major project was undertaken to ease the heartbreaking situation of homeless military veterans there. The cargo containers had been accumulating exponentially since the countries of origin (primarily China) realized that it was more cost-effective to abandon the big steel boxes at their destination points than it was to pay to have the empty crates shipped back to be refilled and reshipped. South of Ensenada, in the little town of Maneadero, is an orphanage for handicapped children, known to locals and expats alike as Casa Gabriel.
This small establishment provides a loving and caring environment for handicapped children, who, through no fault of their own, are unable to care for themselves. Read more

Advanced Art Class Rejuvenates Its Mural
Fabian Sanchez is the coordinator of all the art classes conducted at Ensenada’s cultural hub, CEARTE. He’s the man responsible for giving a special assignment to local artist and muralist, Esther Gomez, who also works in the main museum as curator and guide. He asked her to lead a class of advanced art students (some of whom are accomplished artists in their own right) in a special project: Create a unique mural on the outside wall of the class itself.
