New SENTRI Gate Coming to Calle Segunda This November

New SENTRI Lanes Draw the Line in Tijuana

If you’ve heard rumors about SENTRI moving—take a breath.

The main SENTRI entrance on Blvd. Padre Kino isn’t going anywhere.

What’s really happening is that the city is opening a new SENTRI access point on Calle Segunda during the third week of November 2025, according to official sources. So yes, there’s change—but it’s an addition, not a relocation.

Official Word from City Hall

Tijuana Mayor Ismael Burgueño Ruiz announced that the new SENTRI gate on Calle Segunda will start operations in mid-November. The move is part of a binational mobility plan designed to relieve traffic in one of the busiest border cities in the world.

“This project directly benefits both drivers and local businesses,” said Burgueño. “Every month, about 600,000 vehicles use SENTRI, another 600,000 use the Ready Lane, and roughly 170,000 cross through the general lanes.”

Those numbers explain why most of us spend way too much of our lives staring at the bumper ahead.

The New Layout

Here’s how the border setup will look once the new lane opens:

  • Padre Kino – The current SENTRI access stays right where it’s always been.
  • Calle Segunda – A new SENTRI entrance opening mid-November.
  • Paseo de los Héroes – Keeps the general and medical-pass lanes.
  • Vía Rápida – Still handles the Ready Lane.

With this configuration, drivers coming from Playas de Tijuana or Rosarito will finally have a direct path into SENTRI through Calle Segunda, avoiding long detours across the city.

How We All Got Confused

Let’s be honest—this story got tangled fast.

Early city communications mentioned new works on Calle Segunda but didn’t clearly explain that Padre Kino would remain open. Many—including us—understood it as a total relocation.

Now that City Hall has clarified things, the record is straight:

SENTRI stays on Padre Kino, and Calle Segunda adds a second access point.

Sometimes, even the “official sources” could use a better editor.

Why It Matters

Anyone who crosses daily knows the pain of the border shuffle—stop, inch forward, check your mirrors, sigh. Adding another SENTRI access could finally shorten those never-ending lines.

The expansion is expected to:

  • Ease congestion around Zona Río and downtown.
  • Improve circulation for commuters and tourists.
  • Strengthen cross-border trade and mobility.

While construction might cause a few temporary detours, the long-term benefits should outweigh the headaches.

Looking Ahead

Mayor Burgueño also revealed that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will soon begin a four-month pilot program at San Ysidro. The test will focus on improving inspection efficiency while maintaining strict security standards.

Meanwhile, Tijuana’s government will review additional infrastructure projects for 2026, including improvements along Vía Rápida Oriente to further reduce congestion.

This coordinated effort aims to modernize border infrastructure and, hopefully, make the daily crossing experience a little less painful.

The Bottom Line

So, no—the SENTRI entrance isn’t moving.

Yes—a new SENTRI gate on Calle Segunda opens in the third week of November.

Together, they’ll handle the growing traffic, improve flow, and save a few thousand headaches a day.

Because here at Gringo Gazette North, we don’t do bad news.

Just smoother crossings ahead.
